Month-over-month (January 2025 vs December 2024)

  • Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Canada grew 0.4% in January 2025 following a gain of 0.3% in December 2024
  • Real GDP in Canada’s goods producing industries grew 1.1% from December 2024 to January 2025
  • Real GDP in Canada’s services-producing industries was up 0.1% from December 2024 to January 2025

  • In January 2025, 13 industries reported higher real GDP compared to the previous month
  • Among broad industries, monthly GDP declines were fastest for management of companies and retail trade
  • The largest gains were reported for utilities and mining

Year-over-year (January 2025 vs January 2024)

  • The Canadian economy was 2.2% larger in January 2025 when compared to the same month in 2024
  • Real GDP from goods producing industries grew 2.4%
    • Growth in resource industries as well as construction and utilities offset a decline in manufacturing
  • Real GDP from services-producing industries was up 2.2% with gains in most industries
