COVID-19: Updates from CFIB on Survey Results

Every Friday throughout this pandemic, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB)sends an online survey to its members to understand how businesses are impacted by the pandemic and what support they need. As of May 11, last Friday’s survey had received 6,404 responses from small businesses across Canada.

Highlights from Last Week’s Survey (May 8):

• The survey found that 42% of businesses are concerned with accessing PPEs, and this concern is increasing.
• In Nova Scotia, the top concerns are access to disposable face masks (67%), gloves (45%) and thermometers (21%).
• 73% of Nova Scotia business owners indicate they are strongly/somewhat confident that their business will survive (vs 74% nationally)
• 48% of Nova Scotia business owners strongly/somewhat agree they are getting the help they need (vs 47% nationally)
• 88% of Nova Scotia business owners strongly/somewhat agree supports should be extended through the summer (84% nationally)
• 61% of Nova Scotia business owners strongly/somewhat agree government needs to do more to help with commercial rent (65% nationally)
