COVID-19 Update for CANS Members – June 10, 2021
The following message was sent Thursday, June 10, 2021. We encourage CANS member firms to review the relevant recommendations and follow current public health measures.
CANS Office Update
CANS office has resumed the following in-person services: print orders, the sale of CCDC & CCA Standard Documents, and the signing of Statutory Declarations. Effective Wednesday, June 16, CANS members will be able to enter our front office, one person at a time. In keeping with Public Health’s directive of wearing a non-medical mask in indoor public places, visitors to CANS Dartmouth office will be required to wear a mask upon entry of the building.
To ensure the health and safety of CANS staff, our members and visitors coming into our office, please follow instructions located on our front door prior to entry. You are required to call upon entry and wait for instructions from a CANS staff member.

Nova Scotia’s Reopening Plan
Nova Scotia’s reopening plan safely eases restrictions over five phases as vaccination targets are reached and case numbers and hospitalizations decline. Phases are expected to last between 2 to 4 weeks if targets are met in each phase. Click here to access the Government of Nova Scotia’s Reopening Plan.

CURRENT PHASE: Phase One (Phase Two is anticipated to start June 16).
Key Updates Coming in Phase Two:
- Indoor and outdoor social gatherings –Informal social gathering limit indoors is up to 10 people (household members and visitors) without social distancing and masks.
- Informal social gathering limit outdoors is up to 25 people without social distancing.
- Meetings and training – 10 people maximum indoors and 25 people maximum outdoors when meetings and training are hosted by a business or organization
- Retail and shopping – All retail stores can operate at 50% of the store’s capacity (shoppers and staff) and need to follow the Health Protection Act Order, including public health measures like social distancing and masks.
- Travel within Nova Scotia – No restriction on travel within Nova Scotia. Travel is permitted within Nova Scotia (you can travel outside your community).
Current Provincial Restrictions
Restrictions on Travel to Nova Scotia: People from outside Nova Scotia can only enter the province for essential travel (you’re not allowed to enter Nova Scotia for non-essential travel). You can also enter Nova Scotia if you’re a permanent resident. Rotational Workers (working outside Nova Scotia): Starting June 8, 2021, there are different self-isolation requirements for vaccinated and unvaccinated rotational workers returning to Nova Scotia. Learn more: COVID-19 Rotational Worker Protocol (PDF).
Continue Regular COVID-19 Testing
Everyone should get tested regularly for COVID-19, even if you have no or only mild symptoms.
Book an appointment for a standard test at a primary assessment centre. Rapid testing is available without an appointment at pop-up sites. Visit the Nova Scotia Health Authority website for more information about testing.
Rapid Testing Available: The Halifax Chamber of Commerce is a provincially approved COVID-19 rapid test distributor. Through this pilot project, with the assistance of Nova Scotia Public Health, rapid testing kits will be rolled out to SMEs and their employees to ensure a safe working environment.
Workplace screening is another layer of protection for workers, the people they serve, and their communities from COVID-19. Across the country, these rapid tests have already helped to identify and stop the transmission of over 11,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Vaccine Information
To protect yourself from COVID-19, it is important to get vaccinated.
Vaccine Second Dose Rescheduling: Nova Scotians who received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on or before April 10 and are scheduled to receive their second dose on or before July 24 can now reschedule their appointments for earlier dates. Learn more about rescheduling doses here.
Prevent the Spread; Wear A Mask
When worn properly, non-medical masks can reduce the risk of transmitting the virus. For more details on mask-wearing requirements and how to wear a mask, click here.
All businesses, organizations and workplaces need to follow the Health Protection Act Order and their sector-specific plans, including any additional mask requirements for areas that are not accessed by the public.
