COVID-19 Update for CANS Members – April 28, 2021

The following message was sent Wednesday, April 28, 2021. We encourage CANS member firms to review the relevant recommendations and follow current public health measures. 

Summary of Restrictions – As of April 27, 2021 

Effective April 28, 2021, at 8:00 a.m., Nova Scotia is on a two-week provincial lockdown. Premier Rankin and Dr. Strang reiterated that construction sites remain open as industry is following current public health guidelines.

Reminder to Construction Industry

While industry continues to do an overall good job, we need to pay extra attention and take every precaution to ensure the health and safety is of utmost importance. The provincial government is watching our industry closely but there is a tightened level of scrutiny and we are under a microscope to ensure we are following all public health directives.

It is highly recommended that you pay close attention to all requirements and restrictions, in addition to the Health Protection Act Order. Follow the worksite safety tips and reminders.

This is the time when leadership counts for your safety, your colleagues and your family. If you see something, say something. If you have questions about restrictions and how it impacts your job, ask us by emailing questions@cans.ns.ca. Construction is considered an essential service and we want to keep it that way. CANS is fully supporting the Department of Labour and Advanced Education in its efforts to work with industry, educate, problem solve and, yes, enforce for repeated non-compliance. This is serious and we need to lead as we have for the last 14 months. If we don’t, we have seen what happens in other provinces with complete construction industry shutdowns. It is simply too important not to do the right things.

Update from CANS Projects & Documents Services

In light of the recently announced province-wide restrictions, CANS office will continue offering the following in-person services however, in a modified format: print orders, the sale of CCDC & CCA Standard Documents, and the signing of Statutory Declarations.

Please note: CANS Business Centre and board rooms remain closed. 

To ensure the safety of CANS staff, our members and visitors coming into our office, you will only be able to enter the main entrance vestibule. Below you will find detailed instructions on how to access our Projects & Documents services.

How to Access CANS Projects & Documents Services

Upon arrival at CANS, call 902-468-2267 ext 0. A CANS staff member will confirm your name, company and the service you require. Wait for CANS staff to give you the okay to enter the building.

Depending on what services you require, CANS staff will instruct you on next steps. NOTE: Payment for services can be made over the phone using a credit card, cheque or EMT payment. We will not be accepting cash or debit at this time.

Print Orders

A CANS staff member will place your print order on the table. Please wait until they have stepped back inside the main building to enter the vestibule to retrieve your order.

CCDC & CCA Standard Documents

A CANS staff member will place your document order on the table. Please wait until they have stepped back inside the main building to enter the vestibule to retrieve your order.

Statutory Declarations

  • Place your document(s) on the table and hold up your photo ID. The Commissioner of Oaths will issue the declaration. Once agreed, sign the document and pass it to the Commissioner through the door.
  • The Commissioner of Oaths will stamp and sign the document(s) and pass back to you in the vestibule.
  • Once the document(s) is signed by the Commissioner of Oaths and passed back to you, you can step out of the vestibule.
