A Message from CANS President & CEO, Duncan Williams

Dear CANS Members:

I hope this message finds you well during these interesting times. I am a firm believer that adversity is catalyst to creativity, imagination and innovation.

As many of you know, I was on a leave of absence during the Fall and a return to work plan over the past five weeks. I have now resumed my full-time duties and responsibilities as President and CEO at CANS.

During my absence, I am very proud to say that our leadership volunteers and staff did an outstanding job of keeping CANS focused on our mandate, goals and objectives. In particular, I would like to extend my deep appreciation to the chair of our Board of Directors, Victoria Stanhope, for her exceptional leadership and support. I would also like to extend appreciation to additional Governance and Nominating Committee members, Gord Gamble and Tim Houstma, for their tireless efforts and support.

While our entire CANS team continued to demonstrate their dedication and commitment to the Association, I want to recognize the inspirational leadership of our senior management team consisting of Melody Hillman, Rob Lewis and Sheryl Farrington. As a team, they demonstrated exceptional leadership. Melody, as Acting President and CEO, did an outstanding job of representing CANS, our members and our industry while also assuming the senior operational role at CANS.

Our Association, membership and industry are stronger as a result of the commitment and leadership demonstrated by our Board of Directors, management and entire CANS staff. For that and their support, I say thank you – it has been truly inspiring and humbling.

I look forward to the future with great excitement and enthusiasm as we build on the tremendous work and progress already achieved since the launch of our new Strategic Plan in October 2020.
