CANS honoured with Canadian Construction Association’s 2024 Workforce Excellence Award
Dartmouth, NS – March 14, 2025 | The Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) Workforce Excellence Award. This national recognition highlights CANS’ commitment to advancing workforce development and strengthening the construction industry in Nova Scotia.
The Workforce Excellence Award is presented to organizations that are leaders in fostering a strong, skilled workforce and champions of diversity and inclusion in the industry. Through its initiatives in youth engagement, community outreach, immigration partnerships, and workforce training programs, as well as events like CANS Construction Job Fair and the inaugural Women in Construction Forum, CANS has been at the forefront of addressing labour shortages, advocating for workforce diversity, and implementing innovative programs to support the construction sector.
“We are dedicated to supporting industry employers, advocating for workforce solutions, and ensuring that our sector remains competitive and resilient,” said Duncan Williams, President & CEO at CANS. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our team and industry partners in building a strong, skilled workforce for the future.”
CANS has played an integral role in attracting, retaining, and upskilling talent in Nova Scotia’s construction industry during a national labour shortage. Buildforce Canada predicts a massive labour shortfall; Nova Scotia’s construction industry needs more than 10,600 workers by 2033 in order to support critical housing and infrastructure development.
The Workforce Excellence Award highlights the collective efforts of CANS’ team, members, and partners in shaping a stronger construction sector. The Association continues to work closely with government and industry partners to create sustainable solutions that support employers, workers, and ultimately our communities. As Nova Scotia’s construction industry continues to evolve, CANS remains committed to driving workforce innovation and excellence.
CANS received the award Friday, March 14, 2025, at CCA’s Annual Conference and National Awards Ceremony, where industry leaders from across Canada will gather to celebrate excellence in construction.
