Join the review process
The Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) and the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) are encouraging all members to voice their opinions during the public review of proposed changes to Codes Canada Publications:
- National Building Code of Canada 2015 (NBC)
- National Fire Code of Canada 2015 (NFC)
- National Plumbing Code of Canada 2015 (NPC)
This national public review will run from October 22, 2019 to December 23, 2019.
A final national public review, taking place in January 2020 will also include changes being proposed to the National Energy Code for Buildings, as well as changes related to accessibility, large farm buildings and updates to referenced standards.
The purpose of this public review is to:
- Provide Code users and stakeholders with a detailed look at proposed technical changes and
- Seek comment on each proposed technical change as to whether it should be approved, altered, or rejected.

A public review is underway throughout fall 2019.
This review focuses on changes proposed to the 2015 editions of the aforementioned national codes. A final public review will also be taking place in January 2020, which will also include changes being proposed to the National Energy Code for Buildings. All accepted changes will be published and reflected in the new 2020 versions of the national codes.
We encourage all interested members and firms to submit their comments on the proposed changes by visiting the National Research Council (NRC) Canada’s page provided in the link above.
The NRC now offers free access to national model codes in electronic format, as well as the provincial codes published by the NRC through its online store. Please note that the PDFs are single-transferrable and lock to individual computers, and are not transferrable to a shared space in your respective offices, so multiple downloads may be required.
