Thank you for attending CANS 2024 Stanhope Simpson Insurance Women in Construction Forum
CANS 2024 Stanhope Simpson Insurance Women in Construction Forum, held on October 29 at Best Western Plus in Dartmouth was a great success! Nearly 200 industry professionals joined us for this brand-new event, forging new connections and highlighting the unique experiences and perspectives of women in construction.
When doors opened, attendees were lined up into the hotel lobby as they eagerly awaited their first opportunity to network and mingle over refreshing welcome mocktails.
CANS Vice President, Member Engagement & Development Melody Hillman kicked off the day by introducing our incredibly accomplished emcee, past CANS Chair and presenting sponsor, Victoria Stanhope.
Our first facilitated networking session of the day, led by Barefoot Facilitation’s Founder and CEO, Gerard Murphy, helped get people out of their seats and start breaking the ice. Attendees were encouraged to take selfies with their new connections — take a look at our LinkedIn to see some of these amazing moments!
Our keynote speaker, Jennie West-Correia, then took the stage for a rousing and interactive session, sharing some of her lessons in leadership and encouraging our attendees to find confidence in their unique strengths. This powerful session culminated in Jennie’s four key leadership takeaways: be intentional; inform, don’t ask; take up space; nurture your network.
Following a delicious lunch and a second facilitated networking session, attendees had the opportunity to learn from a panel of industry leaders in a session moderated by Anathea Fenton, Founder and President of Falkbuilt Halifax.
Panelists discussed childhood dreams, construction career roadblocks, their experiences with mentorship, advice for the next generation and more. Thank you to each of our incredible and inspiring panelists for sharing your journeys, Allison Coffin (Eastward Energy), Nada George (Marid Construction), Chelsea Manzoni (Ocean Contractors) and Stephany Pinhorn (Nova Scotia Power).
The day concluded with a draw for some generously donated door prizes, including an Igloo cooler (donated by Data Wiring Solutions), a gift certificate (donated by Red Wing Shoes), a gift basket (donated by Green Foot Energy Solutions) and two $100 VISA gift cards (donated by CANS).
Thank you to all attendees, CANS staff and sponsors for making our inaugural Women in Construction Forum such a resounding success. A special thank you to the staff at Best Western Plus for providing such a comfortable and natural setting for the day.
