The award recognizes CCA integrated partner associations who demonstrate outstanding leadership in industry enhancement, education, and member recruitment.

“Throughout our 161-year history, CANS members have been pivotal in shaping the work we do and services we offer,” says CANS President and CEO Duncan Williams. “Winning this award presents an extraordinary opportunity to nationally showcase the accomplishments and impactful work we’ve undertaken on behalf of our hard-working members and our industry.”

  • Working on behalf of members on public policy that affects the industry, most notably Prompt Payment legislation and HRM permitting delays;
  • Advocating for the growth of skilled trades through funding support and increasing apprenticeship ratios;
  • Supporting the recruitment of new talent and labour through provincial trade missions and educating members on how to navigate provincial immigration streams;
  • Creating of events to support integral workforce development and connect industry employers with qualified job-seekers, like CANS Construction Workforce Summit and CANS Construction Job Fair;
  • Championing excellence in our industry with an Education & Training Development Program that is entirely Gold Seal accredited, helping CANS members become Gold Seal Certified;
  • Making CANS Education more accessible through our continued partnership with the Province’s WIPSI Program, saving CANS members who accessed the funding approximately $290,000 in 2022-2023.

CCA’s National Awards were presented on March 14, 2024, at their 2024 Annual Conference. CANS has previously won CCA’s Partner Association Award of Excellence in 2020 and 2013.

“On behalf of CANS, I would like to thank our staff, Board of Directors, committee members, volunteers, and the entire CANS membership for their ongoing support and dedication to advancing the construction industry in Nova Scotia.
