Call for Innovations in Green House Gas (GHG) Reduction in Concrete Construction

The Province of Nova Scotia, in cooperation with the Construction Association of Nova Scotia (including Atlantic Concrete, the Nova Scotia Road Builders Association, Ocean Contractors, Dexel Developments, Lindsay Construction, and the Cement Association of Canada), has engaged the Dalhousie University Faculty of Engineering to do an independent third-party study of technologies to reduce the Greenhouse Gas emissions related to concrete construction.

The goals of this study are:

  1. To identify practical and cost-effective technologies to reduce GHG emission related to new concrete infrastructure projects in NS.
  2. To advise the Province of Nova Scotia on the development of policy guidelines.
Submission Overview

The study group welcomes the submission of information on Greenhouse Gas Reduction technologies related to design, materials, construction, procurement, and logistics for cement and concrete in Nova Scotia, to be included in the study. Submissions should address market readiness and the value to Nova Scotia, and also sufficiently describe the method or technology so that it can be evaluated. Any submissions will be released by the study team for public review, so no confidential or trademark-protected documents will be accepted.

DEADLINE: All submissions must be .pdf files emailed to Concrete.GHG.Reduction@dal.ca by June 15, 2022, at noon.

Get Involved!

The study will involve stakeholder consultations in July and August, 2022. If an organization or company wishes to participate in the project’s stakeholder engagement sessions, they should formally indicate in a brief email to Concrete.GHG.Reduction@dal.ca: the name of their organization, web URL, the name of their representative (email and cell phone contact information) and the nature of their interest in the study.
