Scholarships will support plumbing students and honour Adam Folk’s legacy
Adam Folk was heavily involved in the construction industry and his dedication and commitment to his community and the construction industry has not gone unnoticed. To this day, we are still incredibly thankful for his contributions to the betterment of our industry.
Those contributions are countless and stretch further than just the construction projects he worked on. Adam was involved with many organizations, volunteering on numerous boards, committees, sections and councils, including for the Construction Association of Nova Scotia. During his time served on CANS board of directors, he also chaired the Membership Committee in 1968, the Bid Depository Joint Advisory Council in 1971, and was chair of the Mechanical Section on four separate occasions: 1963, 1964, 1975 and 1991. Adam was awarded distinction as CANS Honourary Life Member in 1996.
Adam was passionate about training and apprenticeship. His involvement as a member of the National Manpower and Training Committee – a group created to harmonize provincial apprenticeship programs and requirements across the country and establish national standards – eventually led to the creation of the Gold Seal program, now know country-wide as a certification program that nationally recognizes the skills, competence and knowledge of people working in the non-residential construction industry.
“The Adam Folk Memorial endowment will provide students considering a career in plumbing at Nova Scotia Community College with the resources to achieve success, ultimately contributing to strengthening the talent going into the skilled trades and success of the construction industry,” says Duncan Williams, president and CEO of the CANS. “We’ll forever be grateful for Adam’s dedication to help build a brighter future for youth across the province, and the creation of this scholarship fund will keep his memory alive for years to come.”
