COVID-19 Update for CANS Members 

The following message was sent Tuesday, June 29, 2021. We encourage CANS member firms to review the relevant recommendations and follow current public health measures. 

Nova Scotia’s Reopening Plan

Nova Scotia will officially enter Phase Three of the Government of Nova Scotia’s Reopening Plan as of 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. Read more.

Key Changes in Phase Three:

  • Meetings and Training – Meetings and training (indoor and outdoor) – 50% of the venue’s capacity up to 100 people indoors and up to 150 people outdoors with social distancing and mask requirements when meetings and training are hosted by a business or organization
  • Shopping and Retail – All retail stores can operate at 75% of the store’s capacity (shoppers and staff) and need to follow the Health Protection Act Order, including public health measures like social distancing and masks.
  • Informal Social Gathering Limit – Informal social gathering limit indoors is no more than your household (the people you live with) plus 10 people without social distancing and masks.
    • Informal social gathering limit outdoors remains up to 25 people without social distancing and masks
Travel Updates for Nova Scotia as of June 30

Starting June 30, 2021, all travellers coming from within Canada can enter Nova Scotia.

From Outside Atlantic Canada — These travellers will need to complete the Safe Check-in Form and may need to self-isolate when upon arrival in the province. Self-isolation requirements are based on vaccination status and testing. Self-isolation requirements include:

  • People who are fully vaccinated (2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine) at least 14 days before arriving in Nova Scotia don’t need to self-isolate; testing is recommended
  • People who are partially vaccinated (first dose of COVID-19 vaccine) at least 14 days before arriving in Nova Scotia must self-isolate for 7 days and receive 2 negative tests results in order to leave self-isolation after 7 days
  • People who are not vaccinated (0 doses of COVID-19 vaccine) at least 14 days before arriving in Nova Scotia must self-isolate for 14 days; testing is recommended at the start and end of your self-isolation

Rotational workers, specialized workers, fish harvesters and people travelling for child custody reasons from outside Atlantic Canada will have modified forms of isolation based on vaccination status and testing. Read more.

From New Brunswick — Travellers from New Brunswick will no longer need to complete the Safe Check-in Form or self-isolate upon arrival to Nova Scotia.

Vaccine Information

Getting your vaccination is key to protecting yourself from COVID-19. It is important that all Nova Scotians who are eligible to get the vaccine are immunized as soon as possible.

Nova Scotians Under 30: Nova Scotians in their 20s are currently under-vaccinated. The Province is imploring those who are eligible to receive the vaccine to book their vaccination appointment as soon as possible. Second Dose Rescheduling: Second dose appointments are currently being rescheduled for an earlier date. If you received your first dose before May 30, you will soon receive an email to reschedule your second dose appointment. If you didn’t provide an email when you booked your appointment, call 1-833-797-7772 to reschedule or provide your email address.

Continue Regular COVID-19 Testing 

Everyone should get tested regularly for COVID-19, even if you have no or only mild symptoms. Book an appointment for a standard test at a primary assessment centre. Rapid testing is available without an appointment at pop-up sites. Visit the Nova Scotia Health Authority website for more information about testing.

Funding & Business Support

Canada Recovery Hiring Program and Extension of Business Support Programs – The proposed Canada Recovery Hiring Program would help hard-hit businesses hire the workers they need to recover and grow as local economies reopen. The program would provide a subsidy of up to 50 per cent of eligible salary or wages. It would be available to eligible employers who have experienced qualifying revenue declines so they can hire more workers, increase workers’ hours, or increase wages. Read more.

Government of Canada’s Safe Restart Program – The Safe Restart Agreement (SRA) is a federal investment of more than $19 billion to help provinces and territories safely restart their economies and make our country more resilient to possible future surges in cases of COVID-19. Read more.

Small Business Real Property Tax Rebate Program Extended – The Small Business Real Property Tax Rebate Program application deadline has been extended to Friday, July 9. This program provides eligible businesses with a 1-time rebate of $1,000 or 50% of property taxes paid for the last 6 months of the 2020 – 2021 tax year. Learn more and apply here.
