The first co-hort of the CANSWorks program began in September 2015 at the NSCC Akerley Campus and will follow fifteen adult learners as they earn their high school diploma and gain the skills and experience needed to become employed in entry-level positions in the construction industry. Students also receive up-to-date safety skills and training required for construction sites, and fundamental construction skills required for entry-level positions.
Throughout the program students will put to use their practical knowledge learned in class during a 24 week work experience course in the industry. CANSWorks will allow students to apply their newly developed skills, learn from industry representatives, as well as begin to make connections in the industry through networking and experience resulting in a direct attachment to the labour market.
